We are looking for an admin and facilities star to manage our artist studios in Mitchell and Dickson.

ANCA’s Studio Manager supports the strategic direction of Australian National Capital Artists Inc. They are responsible for the operation and management of the ANCA office, buildings, studio occupancy, day-to-day financial management as well as managing ANCA’s public profile.

Australian National Capital Artists is an incorporated arts organisation dedicated to providing a space for artists of all career levels to develop their practices within a supportive and exciting community. ANCA provides 35 studio spaces and a gallery across two campuses in Dickson and Mitchell and is the largest artist-run studio space in Canberra. ANCA was established in 1989 as an independent artist-run initiative. Currently, ANCA has 41 studio artists along with 2 paid part time staff members and a Board of Directors.

Duties/responsibilities

The Studio Manager reports to, and works in collaboration with the ANCA Board to oversee the operational management of the studios, ensure ANCA’s governance and reporting requirements are met, and support the execution of ANCA’s strategic plan.

The Studio Manager works with a small team that includes the Gallery Manager and Bookkeeper, and works with the tenant artists when necessary on tenant committees such as the new tenant interview committee and the maintenance committee.

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

  • High level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, proven abilities in negotiation and liaison skills including the ability to establish effective networks.

  • Highly developed office management skills including project management, forward planning, workflow and time management, financial management and general administration

  • Demonstrated experience in managing facilities and maintenance programs.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and capacity to relate to people from a diverse range of social and cultural backgrounds, including those with complex needs, treating people with fairness and respect.

  • Experience in team leadership, and the skills and experience to work harmoniously and productively in a team environment

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Adobe suite.

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of governance and reporting requirements for incorporated associations, including reporting to a board, managing compliance with the ACNC and ACT arts organisations, and grant acquittal processes.

  • Experience or a willingness to learn in the implementation of organisational strategic plans

  • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts - experience working in an arts environment is highly desirable but not strictly necessary

Workplace Culture, Health & Safety Obligations

As a staff member at ANCA, the Studio Manager is required to ensure that they meet duty of care obligations as required under WHS legislation. This is achieved by:

  • Being accountable and taking ownership of health and safety matters within their control or ability

  • Promoting a culture of health, safety, and inclusion within the organisation and ensuring staff and tenant compliance with ANCA policies

Applicants must have or be willing to obtain:

  • Working with vulnerable people and children certificate

  • First Aid certificate and

  • RSA certificate

  • Driving licence

Current ACT Driver’s Licence, and an ability to travel between ANCA’s Dickson and Mitchell campuses, and within the ACT.

Salary and remuneration

The ANCA Studio Manager will be engaged at a pay range from $46,800 to $54,600 per annum + superannuation, commensurate with experience, part-time contract for 25 hours per week. ( $71,136 - $82,992 pro rata 0.66)

Flexible hours are offered to facilitate management of the facilities and additional activities as they may arise including the potential for out of hours work.
